PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police say they had nothing to do with letters that labeled certain Bible passages “technically illegal” and urged residents to call authorities if they heard local pastors using them.
Police said Saturday that the letters were distributed overnight in the Ladd’s Addition neighborhood of Southeast Portland.
The letters make reference to passages from 1 Corinthians, calling the verses “discriminatory and technically illegal.”
Authorities did not release the full text of the letters or say which verses were highlighted. Officers asked anyone who received a copy to call police.
